This article describes the current review of the Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative, which participating states undertake every few years. The current review will take place throughout 2022, with new rules set in the fall. The article highlights calls from environmental advocates to set more aggressive benchmarks, which many participating states have been easily able to achieve in recent years. Several advocacy groups interviewed for the article point out that there is no data on the extent to which carbon reductions are positively impacting communities that suffer from high levels of air pollution.
