October 2021 Media Brief

The Energy in COVID-19 monthly research briefs collect the latest news read by our working group members. Each month, a different working group member takes the lead in writing up summaries and the brief’s framing, always in conversation with the full working group. The overall aim of the briefs is to showcase how disasters instigate policy changes, particularly around economic crises.

Summary

This media brief focuses on both near and distant energy futures. The first theme focuses on challenges to achieving energy justice, which is defined as a transition towards renewable energy that focuses on restorative justice for marginalized groups. These challenges revolve around our current neoliberal hegemony that has influenced our legal systems, legislative, and bureaucratic systems. The second theme discusses climate projects that different sectors are planning in regards to climate change. We try and pull from all different kinds of sectors ranging from the United States federal government all the way down to a local school system. Finally, our last theme discusses the supply chain shortage and how this will create barriers to energy. The three articles in this section focus on how the federal and state governments are responding to this supply chain shortage.
