Critical Commentary

The website attached is a link to PECO’s current response to COVID-19. Throughout this class and as we have continued to discuss the impacts of COVID-19, I was extremely curious at how our local utilities were responding. As a former employee of Exelon, I know that their communications, especially during crises, are curated and cohesive. However, based on conversation and interview questions with Thomas, I wanted to know how exactly PECO was providing for the Philadelphia area.

The landing page itself dedicates the message of “PECO is here for you”, a common theme I have seen from companies during the pandemic. The page continues in an FAQ style as a means of answering questions, you as a PECO customer may have during this time. What I found particularly interesting was that this was extremely concise, clear, and easy to navigate. The links themselves allowed for the customer to find exact directions depending on their question or problem. Personally, this was unique because when I have had previous issues with PECO it’s been a process to figure out what steps are needed for a solution. In addition, it identified links and assistance programs which we had started to discuss in class.

I think this link will be useful when assessing energy responses during the continued state of COVID-19. With the energy industry and the economy taking a huge hit, I am intrigued to see how responses evolve and how much support will continue to exist.
