This artifact is the Energy Rights Project's first research newsletter, published in April 2021. The purpose of the newsletter is to provide members of the public and our collaborators with updates on what our research team members have been working on, and in this newsletter these updates include findings from the first two cohorts of our survey project, and summaries and analyses of energy topics that we've been tracking. The energy topics discussed in this newsletter include the proposed Philadelphia water rate increase, the ending of the utility moratorium in Pennsylvania, and the Texas energy grid failure and the inadequacies of free market energy planning. We also provide analyses and findings on subtopics from our survey project, such as COVID-19 impacts on employment, emergency preparedness for household energy disruptions, and awareness of utility assistance programs.
Additionally, our first newsletter includes information for how members of the public can get involved in our survey project, along with an annoucement for the energy conservation workshop series that the Energy Rights Project (partnering with the Energy Coordinating Agency) will be hosting at community organizations throughout the summer. The workshops will provide information on utility assistance programs, water conservation, cooling and ventilation, and do-it yourself tips for making one's living place energy efficient.
These newsletters were handed out at an energy fair hosted at Hunting Park (North Philadelphia) on May 8th, where the Energy Rights Project had an information table and also recruited individuals for surveys. We will be emailing an e-copy of the newsletter to research participants who indicated that they were interested in staying informed about our project results. We will also be giving out copies of the newsletter to surveyees when they receive their gift card for participating in research with us.
