This article discusses an order that has recently come to the table, as issued by Dan Brouilette. The notices of the order will be communicated to the utility by January 16, 2021. The order is meant to increase energy security on the United States' energy grids. Given the recent downturn in United States-China relations, utilities receiving and distributing energy supplied by Chinese-based power systems could be, at any point, threatened by a reduced or unfulfilled energy supply. Through this order, the Department of Energy intends to protect the country's Bulk Power System (BPS) and critical defense facilities (CDF) by redesigning how and where US-utility suppliers acquire energy. While the order intends to protect US energy supplies, it could preemptively be said that the inevitable period of transition in the energy supplies could very well lead to energy insecurity across the nation, particularly in already energy insecure communities (i.e. where energy supply can be unreliable).
