Critical Commentary

On March 23rd, 2020, PECO released this press release. In it, they acknowledged that Governor Tom Wolf's order for all non-essential businesses to close will result in more people staying home. They stated that they will be working "with customers who have had their service disconnected to reconnect service and help ensure access to safe and healthy environments."
They instruct any customers who have had power shutoffs to contact PECO at 1-800-494-4000 to begin the reconnection process. No new late fees or deposits are required but they note customers will still be responsible for late fees owed before this press release. They also stated PECO customer associates will help work with customers to find assistance programs to aid them in paying bills.
Because of safety concerns for their employees and customers, they will not restore power if they feel the conditions for doing so are unsafe, but they will work with local agencies in correcting these unsafe conditions to return power as soon as possible. They end the release by stating that they are putting much effort into getting these assistance programs into the hands of those that need them and will be working with the Governor to increase awareness of these programs. They specifically highlight CAP, LIHEAP, MEAF, and CARES.
