Critical Commentary

This article talks about several studies documenting the impacts we are going to face if we do not address extreme heat now. That said, projections show that, without any measures taken to address extreme heat, climate change will increase annual deaths by heat that are comparable to annual deaths for all infectious diseases. The culprits of global climate change, usually developed countries, and economic superpowers, will be able to invest in measures that will reduce deaths by heat but poorer countries and countries that have witnessed disinvestment will bear the repercussions of climate change and increased heat. Places already bearing high temperatures, will be better able to cope and adapt than places where temperatures have been historically cooler. The key point to take into consideration is a global need to invest in climate adaptation policies and to ensure we move away from a 'business first' model towards a 'climate first' model.
