Critical Commentary
This question asks respondents who responded “yes” to Question #26 from the Spring 2020 and Winter 2020 surveys, “Did you have these technologies before COVID-19 or did you have to purchase or borrow them in the last 4-8 weeks?” The options were “No, some of these technologies needed to be purchased”; “No, we have borrowed some of these technologies”; “No, we have not been able to acquire the necessary technologies”; and “Yes, we had everything we needed.”
140 respondents answered this question. Sixty-three respondents (47.9%) reported that they had everything they needed. Thirty-four respondents (24.3%) had to purchase some technology. Thirty-four respondents (24.3%) had to borrow some technology. Two respondents (14.9%) could not acquire the necessary technology. Six respondents (4.2%) answered “other.”
The data was produced by the Shifting Energy Demands in COVID-19 Survey, which has been administered to 169 people over two time periods. The Spring 2020 survey was administered to 86 people between May and June, and the Winter 2020 survey was administered to 83 people between December 2020 and March 2021.
