Critical Commentary
This question reflects responses to question #38 from the Spring 2020 survey, which asks respondents, “On a scale of 1-5 how aware of household energy use you were before COVID-19?”
All eighty-six respondents answered this question.
Three respondents (3.5%) answered “1) I am completely unaware of my household energy use.”
Twelve respondents (14%) reported “2) Not that aware, I don’t look at my bill.”
Twenty-four respondents reported (27.9%) “3) Somewhat aware, I look at my bill every month.”
Twenty- eight respondents (32.6%) reported “4) Aware enough to understand my monthly bill and how to handle disruptions.”
Nineteen respondents (22.1%) reported “5) Very aware, I look at and understand my bill every month and practice conservation”.
The data was produced by the Shifting Energy Demands in COVID-19 Survey - Overview, which was administered to 86 people over a six week period in May-June 2020.
