Critical Commentary

This chart reflects responses to Question #38 from the Spring 2020 and Winter 2020 surveys, which asks respondents, “On a scale of 1-5 how aware of household energy use were you before COVID-19?” The available options were,

  1. I am completely unaware of my household energy use

  2. Not that aware, I don’t look at my bill

  3. Somewhat aware, I look at my bill every month

  4. Aware enough to understand my monthly bill and how to handle disruptions

  5. Very aware, I look at and understand my bill every month and practice conservation

One hundred and sixty-nine respondents answered this question. Nine respondents (5.3%) indicated they were a one. Fifteen respondents (8.9%) indicated they were a two. Fifty-one respondents (30.2%) indicated they were a three. Fifty respondents indicated they were a four (29.6%). Forty-four (26.1%) indicated they were a five.

The data was produced by the Shifting Energy Demands in COVID-19 Survey, which has been administered to 169 people over two time periods. The Spring 2020 survey was administered to 86 people between May and June, and the Winter 2020 survey was administered to 83 people between December 2020 and March 2021. Visit the Shifting Energy Demands in COVID-19 - Spring + Winter 2020 Survey Results page to view more data from our survey. The project is approved by Drexel’s IRB.
