PECO, Philadelphia's primary electric utility, has filed for a very large rate increase of $246 million, which will be approximately 10% for the average residential customer. PECO states that the rate increase is necessary in order to pay for increased investment in its distribution infrastructure and to cover its increased delinquencies that occurred during the extended Covid-19 moratorium on shutoffs. There were four public hearing sessions regarding this rate increase in total, with two held on June 8th and two on June 9th. Besides discussing justifications for the rate increases, PECO's plan to electrify transportation and improve electrical vehicle charging infrastructure was also a potential topic of discussion.
