Critical Commentary
This chart reflects responses to question 28 from the Spring 2020 and Winter 2020 surveys, which asked respondents “If you and members of your COVID-19 household are working or schooling remotely, do you have to share and/or take turns using various devices, internet access, or workspaces?” The options available were, “Yes, we take turns using the internet.”; “Yes, we are scheduling/sharing computers, laptops, or tablets”; “Yes, we are scheduling use of or sharing office space.”; “No, everyone has their own technology and space”; “It varied from day to day”; “I lived” and “N/A.”
There were 115 respondents to this question. Sixty-one (53%) respondents said “no, everyone had their own technology and space.” Nine (7.8%) respondents said they took turns using the internet. Twenty (17.4%) respondents took turns using office space. Eleven (9.6%) respondents reported scheduling or sharing use of computers/laptops/tablets. Four respondents (3.5%) stated it varies from day to day. Eleven respondents (9.6%) reported they lived alone. Seven (9.6%) respondents reported no one worked or schooled at their home . Two respondents (2.7%) answered “other.” One (0.9%) respondent answered N/A.
The data was produced by the Shifting Energy Demands in COVID-19 Survey - Overview, which was administered to 83 people over a fourteen week period between December 2020 and March 2021.
