Critical Commentary

This article discusses a recent public official's mishandling of WAP (Weatherization Assistance Program) marketing. As often discussed by the Energy Vulnerability Project, energy assistance programs are not often widely known by those who need it. Such limited knowledge of the assistance programs also stems from the little governmental, local and federal alike, divulgence of knowldge about these programs. In many community workshops, like ones held by ECA, community members said they didn't know about the programs or they didn't know they could apply. Beyond discussions of energy literacy, the foregoing also calls for an overall energy accessibility. Like the Ryan Clancy points out, attracting people to energy assistance programs is hard..but questionable is also the way he used a song about sexual liberation, explicit in nature, to promote a WAP program. The move on the part of the public official was received both positively and negatively and it is not our job to evaluate either, but it is important to consider, perhaps, the broader implications of the actions as so defined in the article.
