This chart reflects responses to Question #33 from the Spring 2020 and Winter 2020 surveys and Question #28 from the #Spring 2021 survey which asks responses “Have you ever turned off your heating or air conditioning in order to save money on utility bills?” The available options were.

234 respondents answered this question, respondents could choose multiple.
115 respondents (49.1%) stated they had in the past.
Fifty-four respondents (23.1%) reported that they are doing this during COVID.
Nineteen respondents (8.1%) reported they had turned it down but not off. (exclusive to Spring 2021)
Eighty-five respondents (36.3%) answered no.
Two respondents do not control the temperature inside their homes.
Four respondents (3.1%) answered other.
The data was produced by the Shifting Energy Demands in COVID-19 Survey, which has been administered to 234 people over two time periods. The Spring 2020 survey was administered to 86 people between May and June, and the Winter 2020 survey was administered to 83 people between December 2020 and March 2021 The Spring 2021 survey was administered to 65 people between March 2021 and June 2021.
