Critical Commentary

The article released by the Pew Research Center compiles data on consumer perspectives for electric vehicles. The study revealed that Americans are not heavily inclined to the switch, but the percentage also depends on the generation surveyed. Perhaps unsurprisingly, newer generations tend to be more interested in the use of electrically powered vehicles while older generations remain unimpressed by the prospect. The survey results also show that Americans also see no difference between electrically powered and fuel-powered cars and, when having to choose between the two they would choose the cheaper option. That said, perhaps reflecting on consumer perceptions, we should attempt to redefine and shift the way electric vehicles are marketed but also attempt to make them accessible and affordable for people whose concerns rest on pricing. Perhaps, making electric vehicles accessible to everyone would promote a faster transition and would be better received by the American public.
