Critical Commentary
The chart reflects responses to Question #45 from the Winter 2020 survey, which asked, “Are you aware of energy assistance programs that could help with utility bill payment during COVID-19?” The options available to respondents are “Yes, my utility companies have sent emails or letters about programs”; “Yes, I have seen them post about it on social media”; “Yes, other.”; “Yes, I have seen ads on TV”; “No”; and “I don’t know.” Respondents could choose multiple options.
Eighty-two respondents answered this question.
Fifteen respondents (18.3%) reported “Yes, my utility companies have sent emails or letters about programs.”
Six respondents (7.3%) reported “Yes, I have seen them post about it on social media.”
Thirty-nine respondents (47.6%) answered “Yes, other.” Of those that responded “other”, four did not specify (9.4%), eight heard of it from friends and family (20.5%), five respondents (12.8%) had heard of them from their jobs, three respondents (7.7%) answered word of mouth, and fourteen (35.9%) heard about them from the ECA or neighborhood energy centers.
Six respondents (7.3%) reported, “Yes, I have seen ads on TV.”
Nineteen respondents (23.2%) responded “No.”
Three respondents (3.6%) reported “I don’t know.”
The data was produced by the Shifting Energy Demands in COVID-19 Survey - Overview, which was administered to 83 people over a fourteen week period between December 2020 and March 2021.
