Critical Commentary

This article opens by discussing the recent hurricanes that swept through Philadelphia within the last few months. It then reminds readers of the scientific consensus of man-made climate change, explaining that the city cannot combat the issue on its own. It begins by explaining some of the local programs it has enacted to combat climate change, lauding the success of the Green City Clean Waters initiative to reduce the burden of our aging sewer system, however what the city can achieve on its own is still limited. The author then segways to Biden's Build Back Better plan. The rest of the article reads like an advertisement for the plan, explaining that it would boost union jobs while powering a green energy economy. It would create new solar panels and wind projects while upgrading transmission lines and building out an electric vehicle charging infrastructure. It would finally find lead pipe removal programs. The article ends by pointing out that the bill is widely popular with the American public and that two key Philadelphia congressional representatives: Dwight Evans and Brendan Boyle are members of the Ways and Means committee which is in charge of drafting key measures within the bill.

The article falls short of explaining why the bill has yet to pass: the two conservative Democrats. If I am being honest, I'm not sure what the point of this article is. Most Americans support the plan, as the article points out. It is literally just two people sitting in the way of this bill.
