This chart reflects answers collected from Question #8 of the Winter 2020 survey, which asked, “How has the COVID-19 pandemic impacted your employment?” Check all that apply. The structured responses prepared for this question follow:
I have been laid off.
I have been furloughed.
My number of work hours has been cut.
My number of work hours has increased.
I am working remotely now.
I am now considered an essential worker.
I am employed under the exact same conditions.
It is an evolving situation.

Responses may add up to more than the number of participants who answered given multiple options could be selected. Of the 81 participants who answered:
14 participants have been laid off
2 participants have been furloughed
9 participants had their hours cut
4 participants saw their hours increase
26 participants moved to a remote set-up, of these the following is important to note:
1 participant worked as a DJ, but the pandemic adversely impacted their work
1 participant noted they were already intermittently working from home prior to the pandemic
1 participant was working two jobs prior to the pandemic and had to quit their service job when bus services were reduced due to COVID-19
6 participants were now considered essential workers
2 participants noted it is an evolving situation
6 participants were retired
2 of which were unemployed prior to COVID-19
4 participants quit or stopped working
1 participant said the pandemic has not affected their employment
1 participant said the pandemic was the reason they moved
1 participant said they were already on disability when the pandemic struck
17 participants noted they were unemployed prior to the pandemic
The data was produced by the Shifting Energy Demands in COVID-19 Survey - Overview, which was administered to 83 people over a fourteen week period between December 2020 and March 2021.
