This artifact I found details LEED certification and what LEED certification is good for. LEED certification is a universal level of standards the United States Green Building Council created to rate a building's energy efficiency. Before reading this article I was unaware of the different levels and categories for LEED certifications. One thing we consistently talk about in my major is the concept of CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility). CSR is a fluid business model which helps a company become more socially accountable. A company's CSR reflects well to consumers. LEED certified facilities are one example that reflects well on a company's CSR. Other incentives for businesses to want to create greener facilities were detailed in this article including the important point of money savings. If buildings are built consciously with greener materials and appliances, they will ultimately consume much less energy than those which are not. In the long run, these savings add up and USGBC successfuly spread awareness about energy efficiency in creating LEED certifications!
