Critical Commentary

This chart shows the results from Q2, which asked, “When did COVID-19 begin to impact your housing, employment, and school conditions? Please provide your estimated week below.” The structured responses prepared by the research group were as follows: 

  • February

  • March 1-8

  • March 8-15

  • March 16-22

  • March 23-30

  • March 31-April 5

 

Eighty-six respondents answered this question. The following breakdowns are subdivided by week.  

For the month of February:

  • 3 people had their living conditions impacted

  • 3 people had their working conditions impacted

  • 1 person had their school (or children’s school) conditions impacted

For the week of March 1-8:

  • 6 people had their living situation impacted

  • 6 people had their work conditions/employment impacted

  • 3 people had their school (or children’s school) conditions impacted

For the week of March 8-15

  • 11 people had their living situation impacted

  • 27 people had their work conditions impacted

  • 13 people had their school (or children’s school) conditions impacted)

For the week of March 16-22

  • 18 people had their living situation impacted

  • 18 people had their work conditions impacted

  • 20 people had their school (or children’s school) conditions impacted

For the week of March 23-30

  • 4 people had their living situation impacted

  • 9 people had their work conditions impacted

  • 7 people had their school (or children’s school) conditions impacted

For the week of March 31- April 5

  • 2 people had their living situation impacted

  • 8 people had their work conditions impacted

  • 5 people had their school (or children’s school) conditions impacted

Thirty-three (33) respondents noted their housing was not impacted. Fourteen respondents (14) noted neither their work nor their employment conditions had been impacted by COVID-19. Twenty (20) respondents noted they were not students. Fifteen (15) respondents noted they do not live with students or children who attend school. Four (4) respondents noted that changes in educational conditions have not impacted me or those that I live with. 

The data was produced by the Shifting Energy Demands in COVID-19 Survey - Overview, which was administered to 86 people over a six week period in May-June 2020.
