This is an ambitious plan of Ghana to declare war on the issue of energy poverty. This plan is to introduce nuclear energy into the country’s energy generation mix. Nuclear Power Ghana has been formed by the government to oversee the realization of this project which is expected to be completed within a span of 10-15 years. Strategies being put in place to regulate human and environmental exposure include Emergency Preparedness and Response regulation; Regulations on the Safe Transport of Radioactive Materials; Design of Nuclear Installations Regulations; just to mention a few. Ghana is among a number of African countries engaging with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) to examine the nuclear programs being put in place.
