Critical Commentary

This chart reflects responses to Question #51a from the Winter 2020 survey, and Question #45a from the Spring 2021 survey which asks “If you attended the PGW workshop, what was the most helpful thing you learned?“ One hundred and twenty respondents answered this open-ended question.

  • Four respondents (3.3%) answered unplugging phone chargers.

  • Thirty-six respondents (30%) answered weatherizing their windows.

  • Seventeen respondents (14.2%) answered techniques to save on their bill.

  • Eight respondents (6.7%) answered unplugging things not in use.

  • Three respondents (2.5%) mentioned putting a board behind their radiator.

  • Two respondents (1.7%) answered turning their water heater down.

  • One respondent (0.8%) mentioned unplugging their microwave.

  • Eight respondents (6.7%) mentioned sealing gaps.

  • One respondent (0.8%) mentioned learning that cobwebs are a sign of air gaps.

  • Ten respondents (8.3%) answered learning how air moves.

  • Three respondents (2.5%) mentioned learning to use the kits.

  • Four respondents (3.3%) mentioned insulating their water pipes.

  • Three respondents (2.5%) mentioned covering their AC.

  • Three respondents (2.5%) mentioned using a smart thermometer.

  • Seven respondents (5.8%) answered “everything.”

  • Nineteen respondents (15.8%) answered weatherization.

  • One respondent (0.8%) mentioned learning about the different kinds of light bulbs.

  • Eight respondents (6.7%) mentioned sealing their doors.

  • One respondent (1.6%) mentioned energy counseling.

  • Ten respondents (8.3%) mentioned assistance programs.

  • Eight respondents (6.7%) mentioned bleeding their radiators.

  • One respondent (0.8%) mentioned learning how home energy systems work.

  • One respondent (0.8%) mentioned learning they should cook at lower temperatures.

  • Two respondents (1.7%) mentioned learning water saving tips.

  • One respondent (0.8%) mentioned learning about using different shower heads.

  • Three respondents (2.5%) said nothing or they did not know

  • Six respondents (5%) answered “other.”

  • One respondent (0.8%) mentioned installing vents

  • One respondent (0.8%) said safety 

  • One respondent (0.8%) said being able to delay their property taxes

  • One respondent (0.8%) said their energy rights.

The data was produced by the Shifting Energy Demands in COVID-19 Survey, which has been administered to 234 people over two time periods. The Spring 2020 survey was administered to 86 people between May and June, and the Winter 2020 survey was administered to 83 people between December 2020 and March 2021 The Spring 2021 survey was administered to 65 people between March 2021 and June 2021.
