This chart shows results from Question #20 from the Spring 2020 and Winter 2020 surveys, which asked “In the three months before COVID-19, did you experience any of the following energy service disruptions? Please explain.” This was a check-all-that-apply question, and the pre-structured options for the Spring 2020 survey were as follows:

There were 166 cumulative responses to this question. Ninety respondents selected “No”, which was the most common answer, followed by “slow internet/internet”, with 52 individuals selecting this answer. Thirty-two individuals selected “electricity was down/electricity”, 17 individuals selected “water not available/water”, 15 individuals selected “heater broke/heat”, seven individuals selected “air conditioning not working/air conditioning”, six individuals selected “gas suspended/gas”, and one person selected “ran out of oil”. Zero individuals selected “n/a”, and zero individuals selected “other”. It’s important to note that 34 individuals selected multiple options. 

The data was produced by the Shifting Energy Demands in COVID-19 Survey, which has been administered to 169 people over two time periods. The Spring 2020 survey was administered to 86 people between May and June, and the Winter 2020 survey was administered to 83 people between December 2020 and March 2021.
