Of the 166 respondents who answered this question, the following was collected:
72 respondents cited forced air cooling (central air)
58 respondents only used window unit(s)
2 of which also opened their windows
36 respondents used fans
1 of also said they opened their windows
19 respondents used both window units and fans
27 respondents said they opened their windows
4 respondents had some other form of cooling (ductless A/C, PTAC unit etc.);
3 respondents said they go outside when it is hot
1 respondent said they do not cool their home in the summer
1 respondent practices intermittent cooling in their home
The data was produced by the Shifting Energy Demands in COVID-19 Survey, which has been administered to 169 people over two time periods. The Spring 2020 survey was administered to 86 people between May and June, and the Winter 2020 survey was administered to 83 people between December 2020 and March 2021.
