Critical Commentary

This chart reflects answers collected from Question #6a from the Spring 2020 and Winter 2020 survey, which asked: “If yes, to Q6, please explain.” There were no structured answers.

Out of a total of 61 respondents who answered this question, the following was collected:

  • 7 participants noted their relative(s) moved away

  • 19 participants moved in with a relative or a relative(s) moved-in with them

  • 2 participants moved in with a friend or a friend moved in with them 

  • 1 participant had their husband pass away

  • 5 participants had the people in their home changed but not the number

  • 1 participant said they were living with one other person without specifying 

  • 4 participants noted family members visit or have intermittent addition of family members 

    • One participant said they stopped having relatives stay with them due to COVID-19 at some point

  • 3 participants had a child, which added to the family numbers

  • 4 respondents specifically cited the pandemic as one of the reasons they moved; 

  • 8 respondents said they found themselves living with more people as the situation evolved; 

  • 6 respondents said they were living with less people as roommates moved out of their residences; 

  • 2 respondents said they were experiencing a change in the composition of people due to rent or other housing-related issues. 

The data was produced by the Shifting Energy Demands in COVID-19 Survey, which has been administered to 169 people over two time periods. The Spring 2020 survey was administered to 86 people between May and June, and the Winter 2020 survey was administered to 83 people between December 2020 and March 2021.
