When you hear the word ‘energy’, what’s the first thing that comes to mind? (Q12 WI->CU2020)

This version of question 12 appeared only on the Winter 2020 version of the survey instrument.

The chart here reflects answers collected from question #12 of the Winter2020 survey, which asked: When you hear the word ‘energy’, what’s the first thing that comes to mind? 

Of the 83 respondents who answered this question, the following was categorized: 

• 54 of the respondents immediately thought of energy apparatus/es and infrastructures (heating/cooling, lines, fuel sources, appliances etc)

• 12 respondents thought of energy (in)/efficiency and conservation

• 11 respondents thought of energy bills and consumption

• 2 had an abstract understanding, referencing energy rights

• 1 respondent through about energy assistance

• 1 respondent admitted they didn’t know what energy means

• 1 respondent said ‘energy’ reminded them of their employment (place of work)

• 1 respondent said they don’t use much of it

• 6 respondents thought of other things, like food and physical (bodily) energy 

The data was produced by the Shifting Energy Demands in COVID-19 Survey, which has been administered to 169 people over two time periods. The Spring 2020 survey was administered to 86 people between May and June, and the Winter 2020 survey was administered to 83 people between December 2020 and March 2021.
