The chart here reflects answers collected from question #13 of the Spring2020 and Winter2020 survey, which asked: “What kind of heating system does your home use?” The structured responses for this question follow:

Of the 167 respondents who answered this question, the following was gathered:

• 60 respondents answered forced air heat (central heat/furnace);

• 16 respondents answered forced air with cooling compressor (minisplit);

• 5 respondents said they used space heaters as their heating system;

• 53 respondents answered radiators (boiler);

• 18 respondents cited electric heaters (typically baseboard) as their heating system;

• 17 respondents said they didn’t know what heating system they used;

• 3 respondents stated natural gas was their heating system; 

• 2 respondent used reverse cycle air conditioning; 

• 1 respondent said vents;

• 1 respondent reported having a wall unit; 

• 1 respondent said they had a water heater; 

• 1 respondent had a PTAC unit; 

• 1 respondent used a fireplace  

The data was produced by the Shifting Energy Demands in COVID-19 Survey, which has been administered to 169 people over two time periods. The Spring 2020 survey was administered to 86 people between May and June, and the Winter 2020 survey was administered to 83 people between December 2020 and March 2021.
