Critical Commentary
The chart reflects responses to Question #48 from the Spring 2020 survey, which asked: “Is there an energy co-op in your area?” This was a check-all-that-apply question and there were 84 responses. The options for this question were as follows:
Yes, there is an energy co-op in my area; I am a member.
Yes, there is an energy co-op in my area; I am not a member.
No, there is not an energy co-op in my area.
I don't know what an energy co-op is; I don't think there is an energy co-op in my area.
I don’t know; this is the first time I am hearing about energy co-ops.
I know what energy co-ops are; I don't know of any in my area.
The most common response was “I don’t know; this is my first time hearing about energy co-ops” with 49 individuals selecting this option, followed by “I know what energy co-ops are; I don’t know of any in my area”, with 15 indivduals selecting this option. Eight individuals selected “No, there is not an energy co-op in my area”, seven individuals selected “Yes, there is an energy co-op in my area; I am not a member”, six individuals selected “I don't know what an energy co-op is; I don’t think there is an energy co-op in my area”, and two individuals selected “Yes, there is an energy co-op in my area; I am a member.” It’s important to note that some respondents selected multiple options.
The data was produced by the Shifting Energy Demands in COVID-19 Survey - Overview, which was administered to 86 people over a six week period in May-June 2020.
