Critical Commentary

This article discusses a fire that occured at a former PES refinery in South Philly owned by Hilco. I recall hearing about this at the time, but we did not discuss it. What occures when energy infastructres break down is not something we have discussed at length much. As much of the city is being prepped for green transitions, we should ensure that old infastructures are taken apart safely.

This refinery is well known to many who work in Philadelphia public policy, as there have been numerous incidents that occured here. Hilco appears to attempting to turn it into somekind of bussiness park, although their attempts have this have resulted in siginificant setbacks. The fire broke out at 1:15PM and it took 100 fire fighters to put out the fire. There were no injuries, and the fire was under control by 4:30PM. Hilco stated they are going to conduct an internal investigation, the results of this may be available now and we should look into them.
