Critical Commentary
This article discusses the final agreement of the COP26 climate summit in Glasgow, signed by 197 countries, noting unprecedented language about "phasing down" fuel subsidies and coal power. The article does mention that these measures will not be enough to keep global temperature rise at 1.5C, but they do mark an improvement from the upwards of 2.7C track established by the previous agreement. Thus, climate and environmental activists are disappointed yet hopeful this agreement will mark a turn towards more aggressive climate agreements in the future.
