Critical Commentary

While this article is dated, it is important to archive as it clearly outlines the different forms of moratoria across states. Here, we can see that most states have now ended their COVID-19 specific moratoria, leaving many low-income customers and customers who are struggling with their bills vulnerable. It is imperative to keep a look out for articles on ending moratoria and their effects on vulnerable communities. Additionally, ending moratoria should call for increased social safety nets that subsidize outstanding bills. Protections should go beyond income eligibility and should definitely be expanded to account for the economic precarity that has swept nation's households.
