July 2021 - Editor's Picks Media Brief - Briana

Text

The articles I propose for this edition of the Media Brief were found by searching for keywords, such as ‘transition’, ‘renewable’, and ‘utilities’ in the Google news section. As I am interested in energy transitions, supply, and security, I continue to be attentive to any discussion of these topics in the media. As such, articles like the one discussing Indiana’s power plants, continue to emerge in my searches. I usually do not input location-related keywords, unless I am specifically interested in a topic I’ve heard about on the television, because I don’t want to limit energy discussion to a specific area. Additionally, given the searches usually yield Philadelphia and Pennsylvania news, I don’t want to restrict engine searches too much in order to allow for comparative research to occur. In fact, in this collection of artifacts, I have a Pennsylvania-focused artifact on households facing shutoffs after the moratorium is lifted, an Indiana-focused artifact on fossil fuel power plants, and an article that tackles US power production. As I am interested in what kind of policies the United States intends to implement to fare off climate change, I continue to look for articles that mention anything about moving to renewable energy and how energy production is distributed in the nation. I also continue to be interested in the moratoria policies specifically instituted to protect consumers from COVID-19 hardship and the effects they have now that they’ve been mostly lifted.
